Understanding Infographics

I’m currently in the middle of picking my infographic topic and so I have been researching different examples which portray effective visual communication. In order to distinguish whether or not they are successful infographics I have been considering what I have learnt in class. For example a great infographic needs balance of both visual and words.

Infographic is graphical and therefore needs to get the message across graphically. Furthermore you are suppose to get the information very quickly and understand easily and the information should be visually pleasing, in an instant understandable manner. An infographic is something that stands alone and is self explanatory. Needs to be universally understandable, through its visual metaphor. Colour is used to code different meanings within the infographic and you must consider that colour coding is different for every culture.
